DESCRIPTION
I221. Issaquah Salmon Hatchery Intake Dam: Design and implement improvements for fish passage. Corps of Engineers is currently working with WDFW on Section 206 project to make fish passage improvements.

Update: Engineering plans for the new structure and associated habitat improvements have been completed at the 30 percent level design. The City recieved a grant from NOAA Open Rivers Initiative in September 2010 to finalize design and conduct permiting. Permits submitted fall 2011.
-The feasibility report was completed in October, 2009. After considering available options, a multi-disciplinary team of fish habitat and passage specialists and engineers devised a cost-effective solution that would meet these objectives. Based on thorough site assessment, physical modeling studies and engineering/biological analysis, the preferred alternative involves:
-Replacing the existing dam with a series of boulder weirs and pools that maintain bed stability and desired fish passage conditions.
-Upgrading the hatchery water supply by creating an artificial constriction that forces water into a screened intake, while still allowing unimpeded passage of fish, large wood and sediment on Issaquah Creek.

April 2012, State allocated roughly 4 million dollars from the State Supplemental Capital Budget to WDFW to remove the Issaquah Hatchery Dam. Projected construction Summer 2013.

6/2013: Construction in 2013 with completion scheduled for September 2013. Involves removal of dam, installation of grade control weirs, and installation of new water intake structure for Issaquah hatchery. Completion will be followed by 5-year planting program.
