DESCRIPTION
Martha Washington Park: Regrade shoreline to gentle slope, add fine-grained beach substrate, remove riprap and rock armoring. Scallop shoreline edge to enhance habitat diversity and avoid damaging large cottonwood trees. Plant native vegetation. From Seattle Shoreline Park Inventory and Habitat Assessment.
Update 12/2009: Work was completed in November 2009. Shoreline armored with rip-rap was converted to more natural gravel beach areas. Large wood was placed in four areas and the restored area was planted with a broad palette of native gournd cover, trees, and shrubs, including vegetation that will overhang the water during summer. This project was wholly funded by a grant from the King Conservation District. Monitoring will occur in spring 2010.
