DESCRIPTION
Mouth of Mapes Creek Restoration: Daylight and restore small stream mouth habitat of Mapes Creek, which drains to Lake Washington through a culvert in Beer Sheva Park near Rainier Beach High School. Small stream mouth habitat is preferred by rearing juvenile Chinook salmon in the south end of Lake Washington, and such habitat is rare due to past development of the lake shoreline and uplands. Joint Seattle-U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project.  Note 3/4/09: Project in 35% design and planned for construction in 2010, provided funding is available.  Update 7/2010: Feasibility report expected in fall 2010. Pending adequate federal and local funding, project could go into construction in 2012.  6/2013: Project design and permitting is complete. Construction is expected to start by October of 2013 and be complete in 9-12 months.
