DESCRIPTION
The South Lake Washington DNR Shoreline Restoration project designed a project to restore approximately 1,300 lineal feet of shoreline habitat and approximately 3 acres of upland habitat with the goal of improving and restoring the water quality of the lake and migratory habitat for juvenile Chinook salmon. This project will occur in two phases. This grant funded phase 1 included a feasibility study, conceptual design, and final design of the project. In the future, phase 2 will will include the on-the-ground restoration work, monitoring, and stewardship. The final results of this project will include the removal of approximately 550 feet of outer sheet pile wall and 371 feet of inner sheet pile wall from the shoreline, restoration of 550 feet of shallow water habitat with the placement of appropriate sized substrate along the shoreline, removal of nonnative invasive plants, placement of overhanging native vegetation along the shoreline, revegetation of 3 acres of upland property, removal of 21 creosote-treated piles, and enhancement of an additional 600 feet of shoreline with the removal of debris and placement of sand and fine substrate.
