Schedule Start Date: 12/3/2004 End Date: 12/29/2006
Category Category: Acquisition
DESCRIPTION
This acquistion project protected 27.89 acres of habitat composed of 20 acres of riparian forest, 5.6 acres of upland forest, and 2.29 acres of spawning and rearing habitat. The project site is located in unincorporated King County within WRIA 8 from rivermile 20.5 to 21.3 (4,224 linear feet of river frontage). This site is part of a larger 220-acre reach and the largest remaining, unprotected river frontage in the reach. Upon acquisition, the site will boost protection of target parcels in the overall reach to 75% complete. Protection of the site will ensure lateral and longitudinal connectivity within the reach. In addition, protection of the site contributes to conservation at the larger WRIA scale. The lower Cedar River supports one of three independent chinook populations in the WRIA. Within the lower Cedar there has been further stratification into different types of core areas. The site is part of the critical Tier 1 core area that is considered essential to avert extinction of chinook within the lower Cedar.
