DESCRIPTION

Description

Remove or set back approximately 500 linear feet of the downstream end of the Jan Road Levee and restore the floodplain. Evaluate relocating all or portions of SE 197th Place, 218th Ave SE, and 221st Ave SE to maximize river/floodplain interactions.

Opportunities, Constraints, and other Considerations

Corresponds in part with the Jan Road Neighborhood Improvements project in the Flood Control District's Cedar River Capital Investment Strategy (proposed near-term action). A portion of the project area is being proposed for a mitigation activity, but restoration opportunity exists outside of the mitigation footprint and may be a candidate for coordinated implementation. Some of the needed land is already in public ownership. Aligns with Cedar Corridor Plan Habitat Opportunity Areas #15 and 16.
