DESCRIPTION

Relates to area of industrial use on the right bank of the river. Seek ways to improve riparian habitat on site such as purchasing easement for buffer, removing bank hardening and restoring riparian buffer. Conceptual design for approximately 1,000 linear feet of bank enhancements developed, which includes regrading the bank to provide shallow edge habitat, large wood installation, and riparian revegetation.

Opportunities, Constraints, and Other Considerations

The bulkhead on this site is quite extensive (ranging in height from about 8.5 ft. to 16 ft. and extending approximately 1,150 ft. along the Cedar River), therefore bank hardening removal is likely to be very expensive. Potential park uses identified in the Tri-Park Master Plan should be considered separately and located outside of the protected area. Evaluated and conceptual design developed in Lower Cedar River Restoration Assessment (Site #7). Aligns with Cedar Corridor Plan Habitat Opportunity Area #1.
