DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this project is to enhance fish habitat and stabilize eroding stream banks in Taylor Creek by increasing channel complexity and roughness through the addition of large woody debris (LWD) and bio-engineered bank stabilization. The project consists of placing approximately 15 clusters of LWD within about 2000 lineal feet of the identified reach of Taylor Creek. The project will be completed in 2 phases, with bank stabilization completed late summer 1999 & log placement completed late fall/early winter. LWD will be placed using a helicopter, minimizing disturbance to the stream buffer. The stream bank is eroding adjacent to SE. 216th Street, and will be stabilized & repaired using bio-engineering methods consisting of logs, boulders, coconut fiber wraps, & native plantings. This work will be completed during the summer to take advantage of low flow conditions. Work will be completed using a trackhoe positioned on the road shoulder above the stream, and hand labor at the stream bank. Following construction, approximately 500 coniferous saplings will be planted in the stream corridor to provide a long-term source of LWD.
