DESCRIPTION
This grant will provide funding for numerous riparian restoration projects throughout King County. All proposed projects will be identified and prioritized using the watershed plans for each basin. These efforts will be a continuation of King County's Jobs for the Environment (JFE) program that has operated since 1997. Work will be carried out by the JFE crew which is comprised of 5 displaced timber and fisheries workers. This grant will allow uninterrupted employment for the crew and continuation of King County restoration work under this program. Projects will include invasive plant removal, revegetation using native trees and shrubs, understory conifer planting, livestock exclusion fencing, baseline monitoring and/or habitat assessment. Many of these projects will be performed in partnership with non-profit organizations, private landowners, cities & other jurisdictions. Most projects will be performed from Nov '99 through May '00. We do not anticipate needing permits for any of these projects.
