DESCRIPTION

The Hewitt Property is located on middle Bear Creek in Bear Creek Waterways 2000 Reach D. It is a 5.5 acre parcel that is split almost in half by Bear Creek with a house on the west half and the east half is undeveloped. Since Bear Creek at this location is a shoreline managment stream the property owner has the ability under King County code to segregate the property and build a second house on the eastern half. King County acquired the eastern 2.76 acres with project funds. The acquisition added to the 40 acres of contiguous natural resource park and open space properties currently protected by the county. The property has two streams, encompassing 500 feet of chinook spawning and rearing habitat directly on Bear Creek and 400 feet of class II salmonid stream habitat known to host spawning coho.
