The primary project objective is to acquire approximately 15.5 acres of land located in the City of Orting needed for construction of the Calistoga Setback Levee. Acquisition of this land will restore the natural riverine floodplain and channel migration processes for the purpose of restoring salmon habitat on the Puyallup River. The acquisition will provide all needed land to construct the Calistoga Setback Levee, which will provide 53 acres of off-channel habitat through the reconnection of riparian areas and floodplain to the river. The acquisition would include two whole parcels and half of another parcel. This land will tie the Calistoga Setback Levee project to Pierce County's Soldiers Home Setback Levee project previously completed. The land would allow for reconnection of a wetland stream to the river and reconnecting over six acres of wetland.
