DESCRIPTION
This project would implement reach-scale restoration actions in the Greenwater River between river mil 3.4 and 4.8 to restore instream complexity and floodplain connectivity. The overall goal of the project is to rehabilitate lost processes provided by large instream wood accumulations of benefit to adult spawning and juvenile rearing salmon populations on the Greenwater River. The objective of this project phase is to remove relic logging roads, fill, and armor restricting floodplain processes and install mid channel and floodplain structures. This work would implement restoration treatments developed through reach-scale assessment efforts to inventory existing wood loading rates, assess habitat quantity and quality, map existing geomorphic features, and assess existing hydraulic conditions. This proposed phase 4 project builds upon work completed in 2010, 2011, and 2014 on upper sections of the Greenwater River between river mile 6 and 8 with the installation of 17 log jams and removal of 1 mile of road from the floodplain. The structures placed by cumulative project efforts will provide interim, functional habitat on the Greenwater River in the 2 mile project reach.

The overall goal of the project is to rehabilitate lost processes provided by large instream wood accumulations of benefit to adult spawning and juvenile rearing salmon populations on the Greenwater River. The objective of this project phase is to remove fill and armor, associated with former roads and bridge crossings, which is restricting floodplain processes and install 6 mid channel wood structures. This work would implement restoration treatments developed through reach-scale assessment efforts to inventory existing wood loading rates, assess habitat quantity and quality, map existing geomorphic features, and assess existing hydraulic conditions. This proposed project builds upon work completed in 2010, 2011, and 2014 on upper sections of the Greenwater River between river mile 7 and 8. This project would remove up to 1,500 cubic yards of floodplain fill and large rip rap armoring and install 6 mid channel and bank engineered log jams between river mile 3.8-4.0 on the Greenwater River. This proposal seeks funding for a portion of an overall project between river mile 3.8 and 4.8.
