DESCRIPTION
Acquisition of approximately 500 acres of forestland in the Carbon River corridor near the town of Carbonado upstream to the Carbon River Bridge. This property provides high-quality habitat for a variety of terrestrial and avian species and helps to protect water quality and quantity for the litany of salmon species in the Puyallup River watershed, including Puget Sound Chinook (listed as 'threatened' on the federal ESA). Funding from the Salmon Recovery Funding Board would be matched by a Pierce County Conservation Futures Grant.
Forterra and Pierce County Parks and Recreation propose to acquire approximately 500 acres of forestland in the Carbon River corridor near the town of Carbonado, upstream to the Carbon River Bridge. This property provides high-quality habitat for a variety of terrestrial and avian species as well as protects water quality and quantity for the litany of salmon species in the Puyallup River watershed, including Puget Sound Chinook (listed as "threatened" under the federal ESA). Property will be acquired and managed by Pierce County Parks and Recreation, which will incorporate the property into the adjacent Carbon River Valley county park. Property will be accessible to the public for low-impact recreation (e.g. hiking, bird watching, etc.). Funding from the Salmon Recovery Funding Board would be matched by a Pierce County Conservation Futures Grant.
