DESCRIPTION

The project improved floodplain function, connectivity, channel migration, and riparian forest through removal of a mile of non-native road fill prism encroaching upon the Clearwater River between river mile 2.5 and 3.8. This project is a phase 2 approach to support the Clearwater River LWD project to add large wood structure to the Clearwater River to partition flood flows into the floodplain, encourage deposition and sorting of sediment, and create instream complexity in the Clearwater River. Removal of this road reconnected 14 acres of floodplain isolated by the road, including a very productive wall-based wetland side channel. The entire road removal area was reforested with native conifer trees.
