The project will install a series of rock weirs and stabilize the bank along a section of Puget Creek. There is a 25-foot section, between the existing downstream end of a culvert and the point where the stream empties into an underground fish ladder with rock step structures, which is an impasse to Chum salmon. The rock weirs will allow salmonids (chum) to traverse the currently impassable series of rock step structures. Gravel will be added to the bottom of pool areas created by the weirs. The upstream area will also include a series of smaller rock weirs to connect the fish ladder to the upstream end of the culvert. The new fishway will be constructed using 3-sided concrete utility trench boxes installed in a series of 10-foot sections buried below scour depth with baffles. These will be bolted down to provide a series of pools and to hold gravel in place. Western red cedar, Douglas-fir, bracken ferns, and willows will be planted to provide shade, cover, and protection for salmonids.
