DESCRIPTION
Three concrete dams in Clover Creek were reportedly built by the CCC in the 1930's and have substantially restricted fish passage since construction. The three dams are located near the intersection of Gravelly Lake Dr. and Nyanza Road in Lakewood, Pierce County Wa. Each dam spans the entire creek channel and is about 4 feet high, with an ogee spill way section and short concrete apron. The dams were built to dissipate flood flow energy and no fish passage provisions were included in the original construction. Landowners and fish advocate groups have installed small temporary fish ladders and other structures to facilitate fish passage at the dams with limited success. This project will construct a permanent fish ladder at each of the three dams to allow unimpeded passage of fish. See attachments for detailed drawing and design considerations.
