DESCRIPTION
The Land Trust proposes to acquire 11.4 acres for permanent protection and future channel and floodplain restoration in the Lower Ohop Valley. The property is a rural residential property that includes 0.13 mile of Ohop Creek shoreline, 4 acres of Ohop Creek floodplain and 4 acres of valley bluff. This property is immediately adjacent and downstream of 90 acres owned by the Nisqually Land Trust, downstream from an additional 68 acres owned by the Nisqually Indian Tribe, and upstream of 390 acres owned by the Land Trust. The property downstream is the site of the completed phases of the Lower Ohop Creek Restoration Project, which included restoration of a meandering alignment to 2.4 miles of Ohop Creek, enhancement of 0.6 mile of the old, ditched creek channel as side-channel habitat, and planting of 210 acres in the floodplain and on adjacent valley slopes and uplands with native trees and shrubs. This project will benefit Chinook, Chum, Coho, Pinks, Steelhead, and Cutthroat.
