DESCRIPTION
The Land Trust proposes to permanently protect 17+ acres in the Brighton Creek watershed through fee acquisition. The proposed project will purchase two properties from the same landowner: 1) a 7.56 acre property, which is currently undeveloped and forested, and includes 0.15 mile of Brighton Creek, a tributary to the Nisqually River; and 2) a 33+ acres property in the Nisqually River floodplain, including 1,500 feet of river shoreline along McKenna Reach, 400 feet of Brighton Creek, 9 acres of mapped wetland and 24 acres mature floodplain and riparian forest.  Brighton Creek on Property B, downstream of Harts Lake Road, and the associated wetland are utilized by winter chum, late-run coho, steelhead, and Chinook. Property A is on the upstream side of Harts Lake Road which is currently a full fish passage barrier; however, it is anticipated that Pierce County will complete a fish passage project at this location in 2022.
