DESCRIPTION
The Nisqually Land Trust permanently protected 49.5 acres in Thurston County near the Nisqually River. The property contains 1,000 feet of Lackamas Creek, a forested buffer along the creek, four acres of riparian forest in the Nisqually River flood zone, and 24 acres of fallow agricultural fields. This project included control of dense Scotch broom throughout the fallow agricultural fields and planting of 7,800 native trees and shrubs to reestablish native riparian forest species in these areas. Permanent protection of this property and implementation of riparian forest restoration activities benefit Chinook, Coho, Pink, Chum, Steelhead, and Cutthroat.
