DESCRIPTION
This project will restore salmon habitat in Ohop Creek by increasing the riparian buffer along a 1500 ft. treatment reach, excluding livestock access from the creek, and restoring access to historic off-channel salmon habitat. A new fence will be built at an average distance of 100ft from the creek, with minimum buffer of 75ft from the creek and in some places up to 175ft wide. The planting area will be a minimum of 2.5 acres. An old meander channel has been cut-off by a small earthen dike across its outlet. The inside of the channel is clearly wet still and could potentially exhibit high quality off-channel rearing habitat for native Ohop Creek Coho salmon. Restoring access to this area would be realized by simply removing the dike material that separates the creek and the "oxbow" channel. To establish native vegetation along the right bank of Ohop Creek, the following tasks will need to occur: Site preparation Construction of Livestock Fence and Dike Removal Planting of Native tree and shrub seedlings Applying plant protection for increased long-term survival First year summer plant maintenance plus logistics for following 2 years
