DESCRIPTION
A steelhead recovery plan has been developed in draft form. The plan highlights habitat actions not covered in the Chinook plan, incorporates current research on early marine survival, updates modeling efforts, and details research and stock management needs. Though this plan has been vetted by the region as a working document to which projects may be drawn, there is a need to incorporate this plan in the federally approved Puget Sound plan upon its completion. The costs represents what is needed over the next 4 years.
A draft Nisqually Steelhead Recovery Plan has been completed and will need to go through several reviews before it can be finalized and made public. The plan includes chapters on recovery goals and objectives, a Nisqually River overview, Nisqually River steelhead, restoration and protection needs, habitat recovery strategies, Nisqually River steelhead management, and implementation. The plan also has appendices detailing the reach structure used in the assessment, the Nisqually steelhead tracking study, a steelhead action plan, and open standards for the practice of conservation.
