DESCRIPTION
The Nisqually Indian Tribe will implement a Nisqually Chinook Genetics Assessment in order to estimate adult abundance using trans-generational genetic mark recapture (tGMR).  Other project goals include estimating effective breeders by origin, as well as estimating the relative contribution to juvenile production for the three adult types in the escapement, including natural origin, hatchery origin volunteers, and hatchery origin truck and hauled.  The collection of this data and estimates produced will help develop a genetic-based brood year reconstruction to help evaluate relative contribution of natural and hatchery origin to adult recruits. Total costs is what would take to run the program for 5 years, for which 3 years have been secured.
