DESCRIPTION
The Nisqually Indian Tribe has begun implementing the Draft 2017 Nisqually Chinook Stock Management Plan (NCSMP) which integrates habitat, harvest, and hatchery actions in order to move towards developing a locally adapted natural population of Chinook salmon. Successful implementation of the plan depends on robust hatchery and natural stock monitoring information. The goal of this collaborative monitoring project is to collect status and trends habitat data and apply it to adaptive management decision-making in the Nisqually Watershed.
The Nisqually Indian Tribe has begun implementing the 2011 Nisqually Chinook Stock Management Plan (NCSMP) which integrates habitat, harvest, and hatchery actions in order to move towards developing a locally adapted natural population of Chinook salmon. Successful implementation of the plan depends on robust hatchery and natural stock monitoring information. This project provided priority field assistance through a partnership with the Nisqually River Foundation in order to collect this information. Worksite #1 is the Nisqually Estuary / nearshore included smolt and fry monitoring, while Worksite #2 is the lower Nisqually River conducted adult monitoring.
