DESCRIPTION
The Nisqually Land Trust acquired 30.5 acres of riparian forest for permanent protection and habitat restoration along the Wilcox Reach of the Nisqually River. The property fronts a broad bend in the river and includes 0.6 miles of mainstem shoreline. These parcels will be managed as a part of the Land Trust's Wilcox Flats management unit, which spans the river and includes over 187 acres and shoreline along 1.5 miles of the Nisqually River. As a part of this project the Land Trust removed the mobile home and outbuildings from the property; decommissioned the septic system; decommissioned two wells; removed electrical infrastructure; performed intensive weed control; and planted native trees and shrubs throughout the acquired property. The project also included weed control and planting on adjacent parcels owned by the Land Trust.
