DESCRIPTION
Nisqually Land Trust purchased 56.2 acres on Ohop Creek, which have been included in Phase 1 of the creek’s re-meandering and restoration. Ohop Creek was designated in the Nisqually Chinook Recovery Plan as one of the most important tributaries in the Nisqually watershed for salmon habitat restoration. It is particularly important due to its support for life history diversity of the salmon, which is critical for long-term sustainability. Prior to this project, the Nisqually Land Trust had purchased a 96 acre parcel along the creek within this key reach with SRFB 2000 funds. The Land Trust purchased the 56.2 acres to protect them from development and to restore the wetlands and salmon habitat on the property, which will benefit Chinook, coho, pink, steelhead and cutthroat trout.
