DESCRIPTION
The Dickerson Creek Protection project will permanently protect 162 acres and 1.79 miles of Dickerson Creek in Kitsap County. Dickerson Creek is an important tributary of Chico Creek, the most productive salmon run on the Kitsap Peninsula. The project site provide spawning and rearing habitat for coastal cutthroat, Puget Sound steelhead, coho and fall chum, and its unique hydrogeology and mature forests provide critical refugia habitat in the watershed. Part of a larger acquisition of ~400 acres of park acquisition, the project will place a RCO Deed of Right on a 400' buffer along Dickerson Creek, thus safeguarding critical habitat and expanding protection of the adjacent Rhododendron preserve, one of the last remaining old growth forest stands in Puget Sound.
