DESCRIPTION
The project team will complete final designs and permits for the Finn Cr estuary restoration project in Norwegian Pt. County Park in Hansville, and preliminary designs for the partial barrier diagonal County culvert. The team developed preliminary designs (RCO 16-1596) and is currently advancing final designs (RCO 20-1018). Goals include restoring the natural processes in the Finn Cr estuary while meeting community flood objectives. Design elements include removing a failing 300' long barrier culvert and tide gate at the beach, removing a second culvert, removing fill to recreate a barrier embayment in the park, constructing a park-perimeter berm to protect adjacent properties, restoring native veg and LWD, removing derelict creosote pilings, developing preliminary designs for the County to replace their culvert with a bridge at the County road intersection, and naturalizing the ditched channel upstream from that intersection. The project will improve estuarine and nearshore nursery conditions for juvenile salmon and other native fish and waterfowl species in a West Sound shoreline reach that has lost historical embayments. It will also provide a demonstration project in Norwegian Point County Park to inform the public about the importance of protecting and restoring Puget Sound estuaries. This project is a Tier 1 project in the West Sound Nearshore Integration and Synthesis (Confluence, 2016). Additional details online: https://wildfishconservancy.org/finn-creek-outreach/
