Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) permanently protected approximately 34 acres of land through fee simple acquisition within the lower reach of the Rocky Creek watershed. The land encompasses undeveloped high quality wildlife habitat including streams supporting ESA- listed salmonid species, riparian forests, and wetlands. The fish bearing streams protected as part of the project include the main stem of East Fork Rocky Creek and an additional unnamed tributary of East Fork Rocky Creek. Rocky Creek is known to support spawning and migrating summer chum, fall chum and coho as well as migrating fall Chinook, winter steelhead, and resident cutthroat (SPSSEG, WDFW PHS, WDFW 2007). This project was funded by 2017-2019 PSAR funding, 2017 SRFB funding, 2018 SRFB funding and Pierce County Conservation Futures funding, and was aquired on December 27, 2019. As part of the scope of work of this project, GPC completed title review, aquired a wetland delineation, acquired both a primary and a review appraisal, completed a hazardous materials review, secured a purchase and sale agreement, closed on the property and prepared a stewardship plan.
