Wild Fish Conservancy (WFC) ground truthed and corrected water type classifications in approx. 90 mi of streams that drain the Gig Harbor Peninsula - including four with Critical Habitat for Puget Sound Steelhead (NOAA 2016) - using state-established protocols. Treated watersheds include Purdy, Crescent, North, McCormick, Goodnough, and Artondale Creeks. The assessment provides data to ensure informed and responsible management of these watersheds. Additionally, WFC filled critical data gaps on ESA-listed fish species composition and distribution via field observations and through the use of environmental DNA (eDNA) in watersheds prioritized with assistance from the West Sound Lead Entity Technical Advisory Group. WFC identified and described the five highest priority habitat restoration and protection projects encountered during the assessment, and will work with project sponsors to develop and implement identified projects in subsequent SRFB rounds. WFC also provided the water typing results in an interactive web map, and coordinated with the City of Gig Harbor and Kitsap County to encourage the updated fish distribution information to be incorporated in their planning processes.This project received Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Funds from Fiscal Years 14, 15, and 16. All funds were spend within the appropriate award period.
