DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this project was to remove two undersized culverts that were partial fish barriers on a headwater tributary to Salmonberry Creek. This section of the stream provides seasonal cold water refugia for Coho salmon that can be seen in pools in and around the project site. One undersized culvert was replaced with a larger fish passable culvert per WDFW specification. The second culvert removal consisted of removing the road berm and culvert and replacing the culvert with a seasonal ford to be used in the dry for forestry management. This alleviated channel confinement and allows for more natural stream hydrology. This project took place on a parcel nearly 8 acres in size; the property has wetlands preserved under conservation easements. Distributed soils were covered in soil erosion-control blankets and re-vegetated with native trees and shrubs.
