DESCRIPTION
The project proposes to complete a robust planning process for bulkhead removal and potential soft shore protection that involves public input on conceptual design alternatives at the DeMolay Sandspit Nature Preserve (owned by PenMet Parks). In the Construction phase, this project will remove up to 600 ft of concrete bulkhead to restore beach conditions and riparian connectivity. This project was identified by the Strategic Identification of Areas and Projects for Nearshore Restoration throughout Key Peninsula-Gig Harbor-Islands Watershed, WRIA 15, Washington report prepared by the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group. Project sponsor has applied to the Estuary and Salmon Restoration and Protection 2020 grant round for feasibility, alternatives analysis, and preliminary design for this project.
