DESCRIPTION
This project will replace a 36-inch CMP culvert on a private driveway serving 5-6 residences on Cool Creek, Kitsap County, WA. The new culvert will be 11 feet in diameter, and will conform to WDFW's no-slope method as recommended by WDFW engineering staff. The existing culvert represents a partial barrier to upstream fish migration. This stream is known to support both coho salmon and resident cuthroat trout. Other native fish species may also be present. Both the upstream and downstream habitat is considered "excellent". This project will provide full, unimpeded fish passage to 0.94 miles of upstream habitat (location of next complete passage barrier). Additionally, this project could provide incentive to correct this upstream barrier, provding fish passage to the remaining 0.61 miles. This would result in a total gain of 1.55 miles of excellent fish habitat. In addition to the FFFPP grant program, Landowners and Mid Sound Fisheries, the Kitsap Conservation District has provided funds for survey and initial design work, and continue to be a project partner.
