DESCRIPTION
The Minter Creek watershed is the largest of the East WRIA 15 drainages to southern Puget Sound. Minter main-stem is 6.3 miles in length and the two major tributaries; Little Minter and Huge Creek are 3 miles and 3.7 miles in length respectively. This watershed primarily supports chum and coho salmon along with steelhead and cutthroat trout. (WRIA 15 LFA, Haring 2000). This project proposes to remove a partial barrier culvert and replace it with a full spanning pre fabricated steel beam bridge. The existing culvert consists of three disconnected sections of pre-cast concrete that are all that remain of an old road grade that has since washed away. The old concrete culvert is clogged with debris resulting in several hydraulic drops and high velocities. The culvert is also impacting natural stream functions including the transport of LWD and gravel. This project will result in improved access to over three miles of salmonid spawning and rearing habitat.
