DESCRIPTION
This project will address a fish passage barrier on Dogfish Creek in Kitsap County. Located in WRIA 15 near Poulsbo, Dogfish Creek drains into Liberty Bay. Dogfish Creek supports coho, steelhead, cutthroat and searun cutthroat. The proposed action is to improve fish passage by replacing a culvert on a tributary to Dogfish Creek. Two culverts currently exist on on the Koontz property connecting two tribitaries to Dogfish Creek. One is 11 foot in length, 2.4 feet wide and has collapsed in the middle collecting debris and acting as a partial barrier. The other culvert is 21 feet in length and almost entirely filled with sediment acting as a full barrier to fish migration. The tributatires are spring fed and flow perenially creating an additional .5 miles of stream for spawning and rearing habitat. Mid Sound will replace one of the two culverts with a no-slope culvert option. the new culvert will be 40% countersunk and provide adequate fish passage. Dimension for the new culvert will be 101.5" X 76" X 20' in length.
