DESCRIPTION
The City of Bainbridge Island in Kitsap County assessed baseline physical and biological conditions of the natural and altered nearshore and estuarine features and habitats of Bainbridge Island's 45 miles of shoreline and 8 estuaries. This work resulted in two reports:
The Summary of Best Available Science report was designed for use by many stakeholders to understand nearshore systems and the benefits and impacts from restoration projects, development projects, and planning activities (including updates to shoreline management plans and regulations. It helped design the objectives and methodologies for the nearshore assessment.

The Nearshore Assessment report developed a model for characterizing and assessing nearshore ecosystems and implemented that assessment model along 53 miles of nearshore around Bainbridge Island. It used nested ecological scales to evaluate smaller and larger landscapes within the nearshore ecosystem and includes recommendations for a comprehensive monitoring program.
