DESCRIPTION
The Land Trust will acquire fee title, and subsequently transfer ownership to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, of critical fish and wildlife habitat within Skagit Bay on Camano Island, Washington. The Burwell Tidelands Acquisition project will permanently protect 71 acres of tidal wetland habitat and approximately 1,900 feet of shoreline to enhance habitat connectivity in a highly important location for estuarine and nearshore conservation because of the wealth of biodiversity and key role in the life histories of estuarine-dependent species of salmonids. The project site is located directly adjacent to Washington Department of Natural Resources Aquatic Lands and less than one-half mile from Island County's English Boom Historical Park, which provides a wide array of public access opportunities to over 900 feet of shoreline and associated nearshore habitat.
