DESCRIPTION
The City wants to address current issues with its storm water system and bring public awareness to water quality and quantity issues in an urban watershed. The steep slope, velocity and pipe size and the current outfall prevents fish access to Brookhaven Creek. WRIA 6s Salmon Strategy lists Brookhaven Creek as having potential to reestablish lost habitat for Cutthroat Trout and potentially Chinook (with further improvements). The site itself presents many challenges, including a narrow lot, an adjacent historic building, public utilities, and the elevation due to the seawall. A feasibility study will receive input from a qualified engineer and a habitat restoration team in order to find potential designs that improve storm water, habitat, and over all water quality. The study should address the following areas park enhancement, water quality, stormwater upgrades, restoring habitat, public outreach, engineering practicability given the location, and riparian improvements.
