DESCRIPTION
Creosote removal reduces the input of toxins into the nearshore waters, beach and estuary habitats. There are many locations throughout Island County that contain creosote-treated lumber. Often theses sites are older bulkheads or pier footings. Creosote debris also washes ashore. Sponsor and WA DNR have worked together in the past to remove tonnes of creosote-treated contaminants over the last decade. Much work is still needed. As sites are identified, they will be added with that projects specifications to the existing list of projects. Protection and restoration of Island County's water quality is an identified strategy in the 2005 Multi-Species Salmon Recovery Plan.
