DESCRIPTION
The Whidbey and Camano Island Water Quality Monitoring Program is a component of the Island County Agricultural BMP Implementation Project, funded by a Centennial Clean Water Fund grant from the Department of Ecology. This project will be utilized to assist small farmers with planning and implementing best management practices (BMP’s). The water quality monitoring portion of the project is designed to collect baseline data to assess the current condition of streams nearby or on small farms, and to identify whether the state standards are being met. Because monitoring will occur over a short period of time, statistically significant differences in water quality as a result of BMP installation are not expected upon completion of the project. However, SCD does expect to see measurable improvements in water quality of the designated areas over the long term, as a result of the improved farm practices.
