DESCRIPTION
In 2006, the Governor and Legislature set a high priority on water quality improvement in Puget Sound and Hood Canal. To demonstrate the state’s commitment to doing its part, Washington State Parks began modeling 'Sound-friendly' development by updating storm water and wastewater facilities at 24 Puget Sound state parks.
To provide a more comprehensive look at what it means to model Sound-friendly development, the agency has begun a coordinated planning effort to redesign three parks to fully model Sound-friendly development. This planning effort will result in Green Vision Plans at Fort Casey, Saltwater and Twanoh state parks. The plans will suggest ways to redesign the parks (such as the shoreline of Twanoh shown to the left) to demonstrate the latest concepts in best management practices, low-impact development and necessary facility renovations. Using strategies identified in the plans at parks or in your neighborhood will help restore Puget Sound.
