DESCRIPTION
In 1977-79 90 acres were donated by three property owners northeast of Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island to create the Hayes Conservation Easement. The three property owners who donated these easements to the Whidbey Camano Land Trust, wanted to ensure that the agricultural resources, natural features, and scenic rural landscapes on this site were protected forever. The conservation easement limits the number of residences and ensures all residences are sited to minimize their impact on agricultural fields, wildlife habitat, wetlands, and scenic rural landscapes. This was the first WCLT project.
