Priority information gaps were identified in the San Juan County 3-year plan for salmon restoration activities. A top priority was "Evaluate IOSA data- white paper on responsive measures for San Juan County based on oil spill patterns and collaboration with response team". A white paper was produced that informed the San Juan County Marine Resources Committee (MRC) what actions might be taken by them in preparation for a response to an oil spill. The oil spill response team that will act once a spill occurs is a combined effort of local, state and federal agencies headed by the United States Coast Guard. San Juan County has a priority to anticipate an oil spill and be involved in the decision making process before and during a potential oil spill. The Oil Spill White Paper reviews the current state of oil spill response in San Juan County and advises the MRC on activities they can contribute.
