Despite policy protection and broad recognition of its ecological value, shoreline development continues to adversely impact critical nearshore habitat (eelgrass and forage fish spawning habitat) in San Juan County and the Puget Sound. Through the confluence of science, policy, and law the FRIENDS of the San Juans will work with county, state, and federal government officials to ensure strict compliance with existing regulations and strengthen legal protections for critical nearshore habitat.
