DESCRIPTION

San Juan County Land Bank used this funding to acquire 7.29 acres including 680 feet of waterfront along Watmough Bay on Lopez Island, San Juan County. It contains an intact rocky intertidal zone with the upland entirely forested. The forest on the property is at least 150-200 years old, with a number of significantly older trees. Most of the rest of the Bay's shorelines are owned by the Bureau of Land Management and the San Juan County Land Bank. The remaining private land owner donated another five acres (500 feet of shoreline with two additional development rights) to the San Juan County Land Bank. With this SRFB funded acquisition, the Watmough Bay watershed of approximately 400 acres has been preserved in its entirety.
