DESCRIPTION
This project created preliminary designs for a .5 miles of active river restoration in a 1.2 mile reach on the Hoko River. It is a project that could be referred to as a Stage 8 project. ELJs and sidechannel and floodplain excavation are critical project elements which moves the channel from a highly simplified, incised, planform, woodless channel to a channel connected to its floodplain with multiple sidechannels. Planting plans were developed for the 30 acres surrounding the channel work taking place over another 12 acres. Work takes place primarily on lands owned by Washington State Parks, with a portion owned by the Lydiard Family who are all supportive of the project.
A scope amendment, budget amendment and time extension were received on the project. This allowed us to bring dollars from a Makah Tribe grant to extend the project area to include habitat restoration on Ossert Creek. We created preliminary designs that address channel incision and resultant habitat simplification in this tributary which enters into the above discussed mainstem restoration. The design is for a helicopter ELJ project due to limited access and damage that would be created by a ground entry.
We created independent permit drawings and applications for each of these project elements as we anticipate they may be funded, permitted and completed as separate projects/contracts.
