This project will remove four fish barrier culverts and replace them with stream simulation structures that would allow for unimpeded access to habitat above the barriers. The culverts are located on Whiskey Creek and Field Creek (sometimes referred to as Fielding Creek). These are independent watersheds that flow into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The federal government (Western Federal Lands) and Clallam County are proposing to resurface the Joyce-Piedmont Road in the next few years: plans are currently underway. There is no requirement to replace/repair culverts when resurfacing roads, however, replacing the culverts during the road repaving project will open up spawning and rearing habitat for salmonids and will save money. Joyce-Piedmont Road is the main access between Highway 112 and Highway 101 with access to Lake Crescent and the Spruce Railroad Trail.
