DESCRIPTION
Restoration of Ediz Hook has used by necessity a phased approach. This proposal is the third project of four planned by the LEKT for Ediz Hook (at this time). The first restoration project on Ediz Hook was actually a mitigation project associated with construction of the Port Angeles Graving Yard. Because of construction delays associated with disturbance of a major archeological site (Tse-whit-zen village), the contractor elected to complete restoration at the graving yard mitigation site located on Ediz Hook. The required mitigation included removal of armoring and beach and back beach restoration along a 1500' reach of western Ediz Hook. The mitigation was completed in 2000, while the graving yard project was eventually abandoned. The second major restoration effort occurred to the west of the mitigation site and was completed in 2012. This project actually included two phases and was a partnership between LEKT, WDNR and the city of Port Angeles. The first phase was completed by WDNR in 2008 and included the removal of the overbank structure and several hundred creosote treated pilings. The second phase was completed by LEKT in 2012 and included the removal of contaminated fill, shoreline armoring and 1200' of reconstruction of beach and back beach habitat.
