DESCRIPTION
The acquisition project is imperative to the second phase of development of the Dungeness River Railroad Bridge Park. Purchase 9.48 acres, significantly expanding the Dungeness River Railroad Bridge Park river frontage from 100 ft. to over 1,400 ft. With this major expansion of river access, the park can greatly improve the east approach to the wheelchair/bicycle access ramp to the bridge and incorporate it into a sweeping river overlook with interpretive signs, and a future education/picnic shelter. The project includes the construction of a wheelchair access ramp to the existing bridge and nature/walking trails alongside the river in both directions and through the woodland. The acreage will enable the park to protect adjacent wetland areas and corridors and provide (through interpretive signage) an understanding and appreciation of the river's watershed, its fish and wildlife. Future proposed development: of the third phase of the Dungeness River Railroad Bridge Park hinges on this acquisition, especially the southeast parcel. The land will provide space to build an interpretive/science center.
