Clallam County used this grant to conduct preliminary project design for a setback levee along the Lower Dungeness River between river mile 0.90 to 1.75. Clallam County partnered with the US Army Corps of Engineers on the project design which required a 50% cost share with the federal government. The overall goal of the project is to reconnect approximately 112 acres of floodplain along the Lower Dungeness River. The priority species supported by a setback levee include Chinook, chum, coho, pink, steelhead, and bull trout. Clallam County also used this grant to decommission structures and infrastructure on parcels associated with the project, treat invasive species and restore the areas impacted by demolition. Public outreach associated with the project included signage at two locations, periodic updates on the project status, and an open house to introduce the local community to the feasibility study and the schedule for final design.
