DESCRIPTION
This project corrected a previously identified fish passage barrier on Baar Creek, a tributary to Falls Creek in the Salt Creek Watershed (Clallam County). The two corroded corrugated steel culverts under a private road were undersized (36" primary and 18" overflow), perched and degraded. They were removed in August of 2010 and replaced with a 46' x 14' steel pipe arch installed to meet the WDFW fish passage criteria. Replacement of this barrier culvert will result in the improved access to 1.04 miles of low gradient spawning and rearing habitat that will be utilized by coho, chum, cutthroat and steelhead. This project is part of a greater effort to correct all the human made fish passage barriers in the Salt Creek watershed that were identified in the watershed analysis. The project is being sponsored and installed by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe in cooperation with the Baar family.
